چکیده

The salivary gland cells of dipteran larvae, particularly the various species of Drosophila, have been of unusual interest to studies in genetics as well as investigations in cell differentiation. The giant polytene chromosomes in the nuclei of these cells have favored extensive cytogenetic analyses, and more recently the phenomenon of regional puffing of the salivary gland chromosomes has been equated to visualization of gene activity (1). The specific cytoplasmic phenotype of these cells in fly larvae may be described in terms of mucoprotein inclusions which are continuously elaborated and accumulate during the period of larval development. One of the known functions of the salivary glands of these larvae is the formation of a muco-protein which at a specific stage of development is discharged into the lumen of the gland. At the time of puparium formation this mucoprotein is expectorated and serves as a glue (2) for adhesion of the puparium to its substratum. A preliminary

Morphological Changes of Rabbit Lacrimal Gland Cells from Amiodarone Administration

Background: Amiodarone is a drug that is used for treatment of cardiac arrhythmia after cardiac ischemia. This drug as b blocker decreases arrhythmia rate but it has many side effects on different tissues. Since there are rare reports about changes of lacrimal glands, this research has been carried out to study the morphological and ultrastructural changes of lacrimal gland cells after amiodaro...

The submandibular salivary gland microscopic morphology of the adult African giant pouched rat (Cricetomys gambianus, waterhouse-1840)

BACKGROUND: In the present study, the submandibularsalivary gland microscopic morphology of the adult Africangiant pouched rat was investigated. This study was carried out toprovide the basic histology of this organ in the giant pouched rat,to accompany the dearth of information of its microscopicarchitecture in the available literature. This becomes of evenhigher importance when considering th...

Central Acinic Cell Carcinoma of the Mandible Simulating as Benign Odontogenic Lesion: A Case Report

Centrally occurring salivary gland tumors are rare. Because of a considerable overlap between the clinical and histopathological features, this group of tumors often produces a diagnostic difficulty to the clinicians and oral pathologists. Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is an unusual, low-grade, malignant salivary gland tumor that represents approximately 2% of the salivary gland tumors with almos...

CrebA regulates secretory activity in the Drosophila salivary gland and epidermis.

Understanding how organs acquire the capacity to perform their respective functions is important for both cell and developmental biology. Here, we have examined the role of early-expressed transcription factors in activating genes crucial for secretory function in the Drosophila salivary gland. We show that expression of genes encoding proteins required for ER targeting and translocation, and p...

Drosophila KDEL Receptor Function in the Embryonic Salivary Gland and Epidermis

Core components of the secretory pathway have largely been identified and studied in single cell systems such as the budding yeast S. cerevisiae or in mammalian tissue culture. These studies provide details on the molecular functions of the secretory machinery; they fail, however, to provide insight into the role of these proteins in the context of specialized organs of higher eukaryotes. Here,...
